About the Author

Cynthia “Lady Rose” Roberson is a native of Newark NJ, and the Super Proud Author/Innovator of RITTA BOOK, a Children’s Literacy focused organization and Learning Enrichment Concept for young scholars grades Pre-Kindergarten to 8th grade.

From her unique background as a Singer/Songwriter, a Military Police SGT in the US Army, and School Media Specialist for Newark, New Jersey’s Public Schools, her RITTA BOOK idea was conceived. By combining these background elements with her artistic gifts and methods of creativity, Lady Rose recognized the possibility to enhance the quality and experience of both teaching and learning. She makes it unequivocally known that the birth of RITTA BOOK is solely inspired by her students, whom she refers to as her Newark Public Schools Jewels.  As a way to Literally bring Literacy and Learning to Life, Lady Rose designed and developed a teaching concept she names as “The Arts” in Language Arts. By integrating 21st Century Literacy Skills with actual arts such as Music, Drama, Dance, Poetry and Visual Arts, young scholars are moved to enthusiastically engage in and enjoy learning. 

Lady Rose places emphasis on struggling/reluctant readers and the unique gifts, talents and natural abilities that young scholars are endowed with.  As a result of standardized testing not acknowledging or accounting for these inherent qualities and skills, is the reason why Lady Rose integrates them with 21st Century Literacy Skills. Since all learners are different, by building upon innate knowledge, intellectual strengths and actual interests, her aim is to create a medium that will broaden the scope of their potential and possibilities.  This chain of thought with application, is the core of her foundational philosophy. She believes it will not only help young scholars manage areas of deficiencies, but increase their chances of equity and a lifetime of attainable opportunities.

Lady Rose has been recognized as a 2022 AT&T Dreaming in Black Contest Winner for this impressive undertaking. AT&T celebrates Lady Rose as a Black Future Maker for powering her own possibilities and in turn, using them to embrace and create greater possibilities to empower Our Future Today. 

Through SING ~ RAP & READ Author Visits, Lady Rose travels throughout the Tri-state area, promoting a love of literacy and learning with her larger than life Mascots RITTA BOOK and RODNEY (Ritta Book’s Big Brother). While using Music, Movement, Chants, Cheers, Rhythm and Rhymes as her method of engagement, she makes known that literacy skills are vital necessities for living productively in today’s ever-changing world. With this in mind, Lady Rose extends formal invitations for young scholars to launch their very own private investigations, to seek and find what’s hidden inside their Imaginations. As a result of literacy, she Literally found RITTA BOOK in hers.

Imagination holds the keys to doors of infinite possibilities. When 21st Century Literacy and Learning Skills are applied, Limitations are Eliminated and Dreams are Realized!!!
